Eyes

It’s unbelievable.
Her beauty escapes her,
but even the wind knows to blow in her direction when she walks.
Isn’t it ironic that she walks with a confidence
that doesn’t fully exist within her?
She can fool the wind; but not me.

However, I was taken by the clarity in her eyes.
I’m still waiting for the invitation to swim in them.
It is an invitation I will never receive;
I am not fit to sail ships in her waters.
Her eyes have grown dark since we’ve met
and I have learned quickly that a life bold enough to dive in,
seldom makes it out.

Her eyes used to be crystal
like maya blue river beds.
I used to be able to see through to the bottom
and admire all of the treasures that existed below her surface.
Still, her eyes provoke wild palpitations within me
and I require them to have special attention.

It’s amazing.
The caliber of admiration for a tiny movement in her face
where the corner of her lips meet her cheeks.
She laughs a lot for someone who can’t feel the effect of her smile.
