A.K.A. Time to Kill

As I sit here in silence - my eyes cannot see beyond the night

The only thing that enhances my vision - is the soft glow from a wondering light.

The rain starts falling harder - and out of the blue I’m struck with fear

Other than the sound of rain - an alarm in the distance is what I hear.

Nobody talking no children laughing - no meows no chirps or no barks,

I wonder what exactly it is - that silences most after dark.

I wonder why is it that fear can strike you - in the comfort of your home.

I have people distantly close around me so I’m not alone.

For a moment my heart pounds hard with fear - then that feeling has left,

I’m at such a loss as to why I’m feeling this way - when I know I am truly blessed.

There are some things I don’t understand - never have and never will,

I guess I have too much time on my hands - a.k.a. time to kill.

Is it the darkness that frightens me or is it that which lies beyond – which makes it the fear of the unknown?

I ask this because much of the time it’s after night fall when evil thoughts and deeds are shown.

I pray patiently for sleep to prevail as I struggle with this feeling

And I pray to be waked to the morning light to my normal state of being.
