We all have the ambition to do something with our lives and I know what it feels like to not know what that ambition is or why I have this feeling of ambition in the first place. Just to give you some context like many people my age I have found it profoundly difficult to have a specific ambition or a focused goal I keep in my awareness daily. Of course, in your twenties, you have all these people telling you what’s important, and what you should do. The problem I have with that is no one really knows why we should do things like get a degree or work a regular job except “everyone else does it” or “it’s just the way the world works.” To those people I say, look around no one knows anything about this place we, not even science they just tell us to forget about that and use the limited time we have here to make a living, so we can earn enough to live and buy things on the market. I don’t know about you but to me this sounds a little shallow. I mean surely, life has much more to offer than just memorizing information, so we can get a piece of paper telling companies we are worthy of selling our time for their profit. I’m very aware that it’s important to be educated and I agree with that not only that, but school is helpful in this economy because “that’s just how it works here.” What really caught my interest is I guess the fact that it doesn’t seem fulfilling. While I was growing up people would say cliché things like money isn’t everything, and there’s more to life than meets the eye, but our economy acts as if these things aren’t true while at the deepest level we all know it is (I mean they are clichés for a reason). Deep inside me, I intuit the feeling of longing for more than the normal lifestyle. I feel the need to create something or be a part of something that is much bigger than myself because it feels as if this infinite capacity of dissatisfaction can only be fulfilled in this manner. Then I ask myself then what can I do to fulfill this, and the answer I come up with is there but not clear. The answer comes in the form of a feeling rather than an articulated answer. It feels as if the answer to my experience is to create myself in a way that makes me fall in love with myself. This is an interesting concept because this tells me the journey of life is more important than the outcome. The people everyone looks up to are those who push past the normal limits of society and become successful while doing it. People like Gary Vee or the founder of Amazon show a certain quality about them that stands out from the rest. I think the quality of being that they are experiencing comes from understanding themselves and allowing that understanding to manifest which then consequently creates success around them. From this act of being who they think themselves to be in the truest sense allows them to love themselves and value the opinion of themselves more than those around them allowing them to break free of normal mindsets and live the life they desire.
