A short poem on a broken relationship.

It seems that the joy and hope at the start of a relationship always comes with the threat of sadness and loss at its eventual demise.

note: (slightly) edited and updated June 2020

Everywhere I look,

I don’t see you

Those two bent teeth

That soporific smile

Now missing in action.

The conversations I have

Are no longer ours

But dry and predictable

Like Cactus spines over Lotus flowers.

The water rose and swept away

The foundations of our secret garden

Leaving only this forsaken desert

For any marauder to stake a claim
