The strength in darkness isn’t always the same in the sun.

It’s easy to be proud when prying eyes aren’t on you,

The blanket of night hides your blush and fear is tucked up tight.

One can stand tall and angry, determined to share the truth

While wrapped up snug with the support of the shadows

But in the warm of the day a lie slips out,

Smooth as honey but nowhere near as sweet.

The bitter sticky residue lingers in my throat

And I want to take it back but it’s too late -

My breathing  is shallow and my heart is hammering.

“Next time,” that weaselly voice in my head promises but we both know he lies.
