Some people should take note that it is the WRITING that can be commented on, and not the WRITER!

Making It Personal

Why is it that some people,

have to launch in to attack

and make their comments personal?

Is it vocabulary they lack?

So easy to attack the writer,

instead of the writing criticize,

they show how lacking they are,

cut themselves right down in size.

If you cannot comment reasonably

perhaps you should refrain,

for never should a comment

be aimed at causing pain.

Thats right, stand for yourself. To begin with, those people shouldnt even be of concern to someone like you. Keep pushing forward

It wasn't written for me, Kenan, but for all the members of Booksie who should never have to think that a writing criticism will turn in to a personal one. Personally if I haven't got anything nice to say I won't say anything but some people like to comment on writing they do not like -- in that case they should confine their attacks to the writing and not the writer.
Thanks so much for reading and commenting, Kenan.

I've been a little surprised by the responses to comments I've written here on Booksie . Some people don't want comments at all. That's ok: comments can detract from the purity of the offered work.

I think critical-helpful comments are the hardest to make. No-one likes criticism plus there's a kind of arrogance in assuming one has the right or expertise to offer something which by implication the writer hasn't managed themselves to internalise.

Yet we all do make mistakes and we're all one-sided and in a development process. So another critical eye on our work is valuable even as we fight denial sometimes.

Yeah, all criticism based on writing is fine, Adam, this is more about when one member chooses to attack another personally instead of focusing on the writing. I know that being targeted can hurt and some people really ought to know better.
Thanks for reading, Adam.

Well said. Keep it constructive and refrain from making it personal. If you want to take your frustrations out on someone, punch a pillow or yell at the wall.

A little bit of respect goes a long way Mama Hullabaloo. There's always a diplomatic way of saying things. Usianguke

Absolutely. There are only a couple of members that seem to forget that comments should be aimed at content and not the person that wrote it.
Thanks for giving this a read, Moa.
