we let it in
we give it out

for a few moments this morning
the sunrise was purple and crimson

I watched it from bed
as the birdfeeder swung back and forth
on its hook outside the window

there's weather coming
a grey and blue band of cloudmass
the length of Minnesota
is lumbering in from the northwest

it will pass overhead by dusk
any snow won't stick for long
one of the last flights of Arctic air
around here until Autumn

the teapot takes well-water
and sends off steam
over the stove flame

I'm comfortable and quiet inside
I think that means
I should sit this one out

I feel like a long breakfast
of salty bacon
cinnamon rolls
and black coffee so hot
you have to
sip
