Just a little something I wrote in the dead of the night. It's not really a short story but that was the closest category I could find.

Darkness, it's so consuming. But not it's not what the darkness did its what happened before, the darkness took my hand. I was begging for Light and Happiness to save me but they rejected me. However, Darkness never did me wrong, it was the dragon lady that clawed at my heart and what made my tears roll down my cheek. Darkness was a friend now, it talked to me. We played music and talked to me about things that bothered me. It let me laugh every once in a while, and had its own type of light. However, Darkness hasn't been good all the time, it may have been friendly for the first few months but, it really is called 'Darkness' for a reason. I will not go into detail of what Darkness has done but, it wasn't the best place to be with it hanging around. I argued and fort. I cried for help to Light and Happiness, they never replied. I sat alone, miserable, with Darkness watching over me. Then a candle was lit, the light was dim but, I could see. I saw Darkness shriek and look for a crevice to hide in. Darkness whispered,

"Blow out the candle"

I didn't obey, for I could not obey. There was a warm force holding me back. The candle grew brighter, Darkness screamed at me this time and travelled through the shadows towards me. I saw more now, the shapes of the room, the colours and the figure sitting next to me, holding me. 'So that's where the warmth grew from'. He smiled at me, the candle grew brighter and my face tensed up into a little smile. Light and Happiness did answer! I didn't even notice the growls and hisses of Darkness, as it lept to a dark spot in my cupboard. For the first time, in a long time... I was happy. I can be happy. I gave up all hope when hope was just around the corner.
