The walls are built by you.

Your soul is gone

Lost at the bottom of the

The time has come

To dig a trench and

Bury it Proper.

With no light around

Only darkness, so you can’t

We dig a tunnel

We’re digging our way to

This ground we laid

Centuries Past

Gave us room to reap and time to

We’ll dig it up

Fill the hills with fresh dirt

A fissure carved for the site of our

The shallow trench

We now seek to sink within

Holds no space for air

We cannot Breathe.

Breathe in, Breathe out

Let death come in waves

While we dig some more

Dig for a cave,

We’ll store them down

Those bodies laid still

In the darkness keep

While we swallow a bitter pill,

When mountains cry

We tremble at their feet

As they shake the world

The sound is deafening,

We want to cry

Soulless hearts only bleat

When the sun’s eclipsed

We are on our knees,

The sky is gray

Our shrines have crumbled

Shattered and Broken

Through this world we stumble,

Cannot restart today

There’s no living in the past

Ever onward now

The present’s pain will come to pass,

Be brave again

As you walk on

Dare to see the lamp

Its oils burn and engulf your

Peel back the flesh

As newborn life gives

Take a leap and

Spare the set of

Leap on again

Don’t wait on what will never

Broken idols will stare

A chamber dark with

The talisman won’t save you

Lost souls on a contended plane

Leap on again

Walk onto the horizon and

Leap on again

This beginning is

There’s nothing to fear

Only walls stand

Well this is something phenomenal, Jeff. Burying...the past? Reinventing and learning that there's only your own barricades. Sorry if I'm reading it wrong but that's what it says to me.

Thank you very much! Is there a wrong way to read poetry? Everyone has their own interpretation of every poem - that's the beauty of the art form.
I think your interpretation is sound. The poem definitely is about the walls we build to try and protect ourselves, about how our past tends to stagger the present. Reinvention is a good way of looking at it; a spiritual and metaphysical rebirth of sorts.
I have a bad habit of writing poems and neglecting to look for their meanings. Most times, I discover the poem through readers' comments. So thank you for helping me see it more clearly! :D
