CHILDHOOD. FAMILY. FLASH FICTION. FROM THE COLLECTION " BORN UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF SHADOWS. " NO 65

The Third Eye

Claw tells me that this Dr Buddha whoever he is,

that Lesley has books by, is making all this stuff up,

that he's a fake, a conman, that he must be the same

Dr Buddha that Auntie Mary sees, and he calls

me stupid for believing all this stuff, and he tells me

to stop talking all this crap.

And I tell Claw that when I asked Lesley if I could

have a lend of one of Dr Buddha's books, the first

that he wrote, called the " Third Eye " Lesley couldn't

stop blinking 'cause he didn't want to let me borrow

it, 'cause it was the first one in the series.

I tell Claw that it's about how to open your Third Eye,

that's in your forehead. I tell Claw that everybody's

got one, but not many people know how to use its

psychic powers.

And I tell Claw that while Lesley was blinking he told

me he was sorry but the books were special, and he

couldn't let me borrow them, but I could come 'round

to his shed anytime I wanted to read them. So now

I tell Claw I'm always going 'round to Lesley's to open

my Third Eye, and Claw tells me, " You want to be

careful the fag doesn't open your brown eye! "
