Aimlessly wandering, pleased with anything.

Summertime coasters

Dreary gravel paths

Garden rocks and trowels

Woodland squirrels and snakes

Fields of endless bounty

Hills of rolling snow

Enticing warm endings

Ruthless stages of cold

Taken in from the sleet

Wiped down and clothed anew

Cared for by the harsh elements

Led to the crest by the spring bay

Shearing wind beats at the rocks

Foaming maw of greater depths

In bed as a babe in sanctuary

Cast from refuge into turbulent throes

A nowhere drifter pleased with anything

Seeking only what’s offered to him

Taking in meek hands the cold gift of reality

Warmed by the thoughtfulness of another day

So many things to be encountered on a journey with no direction in mind. Excellent poetry, Jeff.

Hi, chickadee. :)
I like this one. It travels, I can say. I almost feel like part of it is reality and another part, what's dreamed or hoped for, but I'm not really sure....I'm prolly wrong! You have some lovely contrast weaved through here, esp with the lines "fields of endless bounty/ hills of rolling snow"
The second stanza kinda looses me, only because I feel like there needs to be a person or thing inserted thats taken/wiped down etc, but you could be speaking of the earth but I'm not really sure your intention.
I really appreciate how the last stanza comes together! There seems to be a quiet content to the drifter despite anything he's given, pleasant or not so pleasant. I feel like it could be about appreciating the season like highs and lows of life. :3 I don't know lol.

It's about the travels and many experiences of a nomad, the varied weather and scenery he encounters and the kindness of strangers who shelter him. A simple story.
As always, thank you for sharing your insights and for taking the time to read, my dear.
