The Shadow Within

I awakened amidst a dark room. I knew not who I was nor how I came to this place. Here I was, surrounded by shadow. Faint whispers echoed all around, hinting to what was. There was no clear path; everything was veiled in shadow. With my first steps the shadows lifted to reveal a hall. Carefully I moved down the hall. The whispers followed and the shadows stayed near.

Who am I? What am I doing here? I knew not the answer. I wandered aimlessly in the darkness. The hall expanded as I moved; the end was always beyond me. I paused and looked over my shoulder. The shadows had enveloped everything behind me.
“Come...” A voice echoed in the distance. The whispers grew silent and the shadows paused. As I walked towards the voice a dark silhouette became visible. The shadows kept their distance from it. The figure raised its hand as I approached. As I took its hand I caught a glimpse of a life. A life of happiness and laughter. Was it mine?

As the vision faded the figure was gone and I was still in that dark hall. The shadows before me lifted to reveal a large room. As I entered the room a door slammed shut. The floor was covered by a thick carpet. Across from me was a wooden door. The walls were lined with three portraits each.

As I moved to the left the faces of the portraits vanished and whispers could be heard. It felt as if something was watching me. I moved to the other side of the room. Again the faces on the portraits vanished and whispers echoed. The door opened to reveal another hallway. As I entered the hallway a dark cloud appeared before me. A female voice spoke incoherently from the cloud. Her voice carried a familiarity. Laughter echoed as she spoke. A dark figure emerged from the cloud and approached. The air around it grew cold.

The figure stopped and raised its hand to me. Without thought I took it. In an instant I glimpsed a warehouse and a desperate search. A wave of indescribable fear washed over me. I still did not remember anything. Was this moment mine? That voice whispered to me. A woman's voice that brought me peace yet I did not remember why.
“I love you.” The voice whispered. It was the same from before. In that moment I glimpsed a different scene. One of love and passion. I wanted so badly to remember. Why couldn't I remember?

Both scenes faded and I stood in the hall. The figure and the cloud had vanished. A door awaited me at the end of the hall. As I approached that same fear from before began to grow within me. The door opened into an empty room. In the center of the room was a lifeless body. It was familiar to me some how. As I knelt beside the body finally began to remember. I entered an office. And upon turning I was met by a shadow. The shadow struck me and I was enveloped. Everything I was began to vanish as my body fell to floor. The body was mine. I couldn't remember when I died.

Cold air brushed past from behind me. As I turned I saw the same shadow.
“You are mine.” It said in a cold voice. The shadows grew and swept in from all around me. Everything became dark...
