Dear heart,
You are not a product of two broken people.
I know time and circumstance has chewed you up and spat you out,
while those who were supposed to love you watched with callous indifference.
And they say time heals all wounds,
but sometimes the sand slips faster through the hourglass,
sometimes the grains of sand feel more like glass against your skin,
sometimes time isn't enough.
And what you thought was rain falling from the sky was decades of salt-soaked sadness cascading down your face, pooling in the folds of your tattered clothing.
Dear heart,
You are not manufactured by narcism and a ticking emotional time bomb.
You are the magnificent colours of a rainbow after a storm has passed.
You are the warmth of the sun peeking through light grey clouds.
You are the silver lining, my dear.
You are exceptional.
Wear your empathy like a badge of honour and don't you dare apologise for feeling.
You are the best version of you, emotional scars and all,
And that's beautiful.
Dear heart,
Love yourself. Love yourself fiercely, immeasurably, unconditionally.
You are worth it.
Please know that.
