For some months, Nicole learned everything; not only about the Economic Risk Assessment Department in the Banque de Morales but also about the work of neighbouring departments. When she met Paul, Simon and Roy on the first day, she had no idea how she would work, and most importantly, how responsibilities would be divided.

Paul Sitto led this department. Simon Macrobie was a kind of secretary: he interviewed all the authors of transcripts in search of important key information.

He passed it to the Accounting Department, which led its own, more specific discussions with businessmen. How much euro do they need, for what specific expenses, and for how long are they ready to pay the money.

Although this wasn’t his main work, Simon Macrobie was also engaged in the analysis of sites of ‘new companies’ that want to cooperate with the bank. Nicole first asked him why he needed it here if the bank had an Information Analysis Department, but Macrobie replied that he was interested in ‘quick analysis’.

After the Accounting Department finishes its work with some company and at least a part of the money is paid, the case on a particular loan is given back for processing to the Economic Risk Assessment Department. They need to go to one or another company and see if these services are performed, whether goods are purchased in bulk and the like.

For example, if an advertising company takes a corporate loan to expand its staff, then the result will be the hiring of new employees (designers, copywriters). This is explained to businessmen by the fact that the bank is afraid of criminal loans and will stop any attempts to deceive the company.

Nicole drew inspiration for her business in optimizing business processes, even from the turnover that developed in Banque de Morales itself. And she wasn’t too lazy to bring something to the agenda. Arriving on her bicycle and coming into the room with a hanger, Nicole changed clothes then proceeded to the Economic Risk Assessment Department. She immediately takes a look at Paul.

“Paul, I’m here with a proposal. I’ve got an idea of how not to repeat some situations, like a weird furniture store or the clinic Hyper Spécialité.

“I’m listening, Nicole.”

“When we invite businessmen to our conference room, each of them generates information in different ways,” Simon and Roy have already come. “There is no standard. It would be nice to write some kind of document that would help them, step-by-step, compile information about their business.”

“The offer is not bad. But there are too many different people, and types of business. For one type of business, personnel is the main point, such as the service sector, but for some advertising company economic indicators will be more important.”

“The description in the file may not be mandatory, but advisory.”

“And for what reason did you bring this initiative for discussion?”

“Roy and I were faced with the fact that to assess a business, knowing its economic indicators, is not always possible. I would like businessmen to talk at least a little about their companies.

Arriving at the clinic, I thought that they were engaged in a massage parlour, and not the treatment of any diseases. But the doctor in our room didn’t even tell what kind of massage, and for whom it’s intended. Another example is a weird furniture store. If businessmen more accurately designated by the type, we wouldn’t have come there at all but would have immediately avoided them.”

The idea was supported by both Simon and Roy.

“Most don’t mind, as I see it,” concluded Paul. “But I don’t have full power in this business. I need the permission of Pierre Morales.”

“Call him?” Nicole asked, and reached her cell phone from her dark cherry bag. Retelling the point of the proposal to him, Pierre agreed.

“This is a common thing among computer-game publishers,” said Simon. “They don’t even accept calls to technical support if the user doesn’t send a specific text file with the characteristics of his computer.”

Nicole was also familiar with computer games. Obviously, the bank has more than one fan. It’s enough to recall that she was reminded of the nickname Ragna.

When Gratte was in school, she didn’t really like poetry and prose, which seemed boring to her. Although there were some exceptions. She liked the work “Dune” by the American science fiction writer more than the original “Three Musketeers”, although it was clearly based on them.

Despite a far from indifferent attitude to literature, Nicole didn’t write poetry or prose. Nicole Gratte is a writer of rules and instructions. She’s not a writer, but she could well have been engaged in copywriting first, and then economic analytics. Now, for Gratte, it was only necessary to write this file, and the other day she started working on the text.

“Dear partners! Thank you for your interest in Banque de Morales. We really value both your own time and yours. Please note that in order to save you time, we have a small list of recommendations for preparing slides and presentations in our conference room.

Please include information about your products, assortment and quantity, services, customers or partners in the content of your speeches. This information will help our bank’s employees make a faster decision. Needless to say, this will save on total time.

For example, there are several furniture stores. There may be a full range of kitchen and writing tables, chairs, sofas, interior doors. Other furniture stores specialize only in furniture parts or sell only office furniture. They do not have large, sleeping sofas and armchairs, only office ones.

How will this information help us? Why do we need it?”

The fact is that Nicole had no idea how to explain to the client that the bank was checking the seriousness of the business. If this were her business optimization company, she could say:

“Our experts will select the perfect solution for your business. For example, if you think that the problem is in the assortment of goods, but you sell office furniture, then do not immediately expand the warehouses and buy furniture from wholesalers left and right. Perhaps a slightly different solution is suitable for you, and you just need to increase the number of existing goods.”

But she couldn’t. Gratte still worked at the Banque de Morales and it wasn’t her personal business.

Paul Sitto wasn’t impressed by the written text.

“Nicole, I like a clear structure. Your text draws on an uncomplicated description.”

Oddly enough, she agreed with his opinion in this time.

“Add a digital list of information that they should include in their reports.”

She had experience writing forum rules consisting of just such lists.

“Yes, I’ll include the necessary information.”

Nicole added to the written text:

“Our experience shows that informative communication about the goals of your business speeds up decision-making.

1. How many legal entities and what form was created as part of your business?

2. How many the share capital of your legal entity or persons?

3. What trademarks are associated with your business?

4. How many people work in your state?

5. If you have a store, how many the area of the store and warehouse?”

Pierre asked to change the text so that it was clear that is a list of recommendations, not a requirement. If Morales likes the new version of the text, he will order his seal in all branches of the bank, from Paris to Lyon and Dieppe.

The only thing that Nicole changed in the text, added a redundant line:

“You are not required to follow these rules, but our experience shows that if you include all the key information in the report, we will consider your application much faster.”

Gratte suggested introducing a survey of businessmen themselves about the benefits of these recommendations. After the loans had already been transferred to the Accounting Department, a short form was printed, asking about whether the bank’s recommendations had helped them in drawing up the report. Three months later, the following responses were received in all departments;

560 people thought that it had helped,

90 people thought that it was confusing,

120 people found it difficult to answer.

Nicole received a lot of money for her offer. 100 euros per person; 100 x 560 = 56,000 euros.

Their department never came across customers at the level of a weird furniture store or clinic Hyper Spécialité. Gratte thought about how to spend her money. She bought a motorcycle and enrolled in one of the schools to get a driver’s licence for it, and ride it. She didn’t have both a family and special cargoes for the car.

However, Nicole’s main work didn’t change, and she still continued to do it. Gratte was definitely not sure about opening her own business. Their last customer at that time was some kind of lighting store, it seems it was called Depuis (“Beginning” in French).

Nicole walked at 400 square meters of the retail store; she thought that she can do everything. Soon Gratte planned to find some wildly expensive lawyer. Nicole will explain the situation, make his or her authorized to act on her behalf, then the lawyer will present the opinion of Gratte in court and file for divorce without her direct participation.

Mom said that Francesco listened to her story based on children’s photographs of her grandfather’s sisters. It seems he believed it. Nicole, somewhere inside, was surprised: “Believe it? Yes, this person doesn’t believe anyone.” She really wanted to look at his face after the divorce.
