Her eyes met his as the fire rages around them, turning everything in its path to ash. A beam from the ceiling fell, but neither noticed, for they were trapped in the eyes of their one true love. The fire urged closer to them still, but the two only hugged tighter, their bodies entwined, oblivious to the flames surrounding them. It was only when another beam fell from above that the trance was broken.

He screamed. Her hands were pulled from his in the rush, and he dug through the rubble, ignoring his hands as they blistered and burned. He screamd her name, but no response came. He lugged a giant slab of wood out of the way, and her body was revealed. Covered in ash and soot, bruised and scraped almost beyond recognition, he hugged her close and pressed his ear to her chest. It was there, however faint. Her heart beat just barely enough to hear. He took her wrists in his hands and began to drag her towards a break in the endless flames, maneuvering around every flickering flame and burning obstacle he came across. Abruptly, there was an audible crack bove him. He looked up to see a part of the ceiling, one of the few that hat yet to catch fire, about to fall. He pulled her limp body harder still, renewed strength coursing throughout hs body. He pulled and pulled, and eventually her shirt caught on a rough piece of wood sticking up from the ground. He let go of her hands and hurriedly tore her shirt off the splintered wood, butby that time, it was too late. the ceiling collapsed, taking both lives with it.
