I closed my eyes, held out my arms, and let myself fall over the edge. I trusted him, jast as I said I would when the time came. I peeked my eyes open for a second, and immediately wished I hadn't, for I had seen the ground so far below me. I twisted my body so I was facing upward, and saw the cliff I had been standing on just moments before. I saw him at the top, watching me fall, doing nothing. I waited for him to leap off,to perform one ofthe incredible feats that he always did, knowing the ground was rushing ever closer every second he wasted. I glanced at the ground, only a few yards away now, and then looked back at the cliff. It was empty. He had left. I knew, in that moment, that he had no intention of saving me.
