The Dryad.

She looks around herself,

bark and roots grounded,

sitting so patiently

by beasts surrounded.

Fingers so long,

far in their reach,

a stroke to the rabbits,

just one for each.

The sparrow, he twitters,

a song he does sing

and so gentle a smile

does his music bring.

The badger he watches,

hidden behind,

he knows he can trust all

of dryadic kind.

Distant, but watching,

a herd of deer pause,

the feel of compassion

through the scene soars.

With yellows and greens,

with earth that is brown,

her skin’s made of bark

and the leaves make her crown.

Ferns gently sway

in the softest of breezes,

a scene so serene that

all tension it eases.
