To My Garden,

Because I watched with foolish eyes
over weeks so deceivingly lengthy,
I’ll sulk in rivers of stone
next to the puddles responsible.

Even in death, the rain lies cumbersome
but beautiful.
I can mourn nature’s expiration;
its impermanent growth
and still, celebrate the birth of another –
Transient or not, excitement reborn.

The tulips are gone now
but her iris, they bob heads.
Then, mid-July
her roses bud.

Lastly when the dew collects,
I’ll be there to protect and only let them take
what they immediately need,
I’ll always appeal to their existence
and submit to death
with a confidence in her resiliency.
