Let’s Fly a Kite

He says, “Let’s fly a kite.”

Flap. Flap, Flap.

Here I come.

Below him.

Around him.

Above him.

I fly.

With a string he wields me into sky.

Winds blow like crazy.

I dance like loony.

At him I yell,

‘I am the king!’

He bows and lisps,

‘Yes, Sir.’

He knows nothing that

I have become the one

Who is flying the kite;

And knows no more

Who is who.

So do I.

One day he faces the sunshine,

And sees I am just a shadow.

We both crack,

‘What the hell am I doing here?!’

Flop. Flop. Flop.

Away I go.

And vaporize like

A sun-kissed morning dew

Into freedom of which

We never dream.
