The holding patterns of the heart. Once taken, we fly in circles. I'd say "a poem must not mean, but be" but I'd be wrong.

In a wizard of circles

Spun from the whole cloth of sky

Up there in the rafters of heaven

Our feathered fliers

Call out through thickspun dream deliriums

Each and all a derivative

Of some salvation, no matter how you look at it

Shadows slid through our windows this late afternoon

I can’t remember their names

But each enjoyed a distinction, the distinction

Perhaps of dust and deities

If you love me, you will find them unmistakable

In my syllables, and what I say

As I make love to you

Long ago, when there will still fields

And fortresses, and the campuses

Of hope and heroics

You cannot stop the floods of caring once they overwhelm us

And deepen themselves in the corners of our hearts
