Clara’s Marriage

Clara, the bride, arrived at the church exactly at 0600 a. m, accompanied by her parents. Her marriage was fixed at 07.00 a.m at the church.

She was in her beautiful marriage gown specially stitched for the occasion. Everything was ready for the marriage. Rev Fr.Xavier had already arrived to officiate and solemnize the marriage and he was reviewing the arrangements made for the marriage.

Invitees for the marriage had been arriving at the church from 06.15 a. m onwards. Clara's father was receiving them.

It was 06.30 a.m. Clara was eagerly on the lookout for John, her bridegroom, and his company. They were yet to arrive. Both Clara and her father were tense as time was running out.

It was 06.45 a.m. Rev.Fr.Xavier called Clara's father.

“Have you checked up what happened to the bridegroom and his company?"

"Yes, Fr. Just now I rang them up, but there was no reply. Perhaps they are on their way."

It was 06.50 a.m.

A man arrived at the church in his two-wheeler and he wanted to meet the bride's father. Clara's father rushed to him and they met in a separate place.

“Are you Clara's father?"

"Yes, who are you? We have come here for her marriage. What do you want?"

“I have been sent here by John with this letter."

He handed over an envelope to Clara's father who received it with trembling hands and opened it. The envelope contained a letter.

The contents of the letter were as follows: "Sorry. The marriage is canceled. My parents are not willing. John."

On reading the letter, Clara's father got swooned and fell down. When Clara rushed to the spot, she was shocked to read the contents of the letter. She informed Rev.Fr.Xavier about the cancelation of the marriage. He announced it to the invitees who had come to attend the marriage.

On hearing the cancellation of the marriage, the invitees who assembled in the church started disbursing, leaving Clara and her father. Clara sent for an ambulance to admit her father in the nearby hospital for an emergent medical treatment. All of a sudden it began to rain.

Waiting for the ambulance, she slowly came out of the church. She could not digest and even believe that her marriage was canceled. Her tears flowed down her face, mingling, mixing with the raindrops that were also soaking the wedding gown she wore.
