Hell

I was brought up by my bible bashing parents to

believe that hell was a place where I would sizzle

to a crisp, where I would burn for eternity, but now

that I'm dead, I know that this was nonsense.

I know now that Hell is to be trapped here forever

beneath this bare dim lightbulb in a Francis Bacon

painting, with this foul solitary being as it presses

closer to me.

As this macabre distorted grotesque abomination

absorbs me deeper and deeper into its dark ugliness,

as it holds me closer and closer, as I shrink and shrink

for eternity into its disgusting shadow.

As I'm sucked forever and forever into its queer

embrace, where there is no space, no space to get

away from the halitosis of its putrid kiss...

But now I hear screams and cries, the anaesthetic

fades, blazing lights are turned on, figures rush by...

  - Well it looks like you're going to make it after all.

For someone who tried to kill himself you sure want

to live a lot.

- Who are you?

- I'm Dr Bacon, you'll be seeing a lot of me!
