Trying to write humor and to be funny is a way to let a certain part of your brain go out on a limb, and to say and write things that you might not normally do. It will not be funny to everyone, some will get it, others won't. It might be offensive to some, or even not politically correct, (God how i hate that term, call what it is, censorship).

I recently saw an interview with the director, John Waters, whose films Hairspray, and Pink Flamingos that many find crude and trash, but i think are funny as hell who said, and i'm am paraphrasing this, "If you look back on your life and think of a terrible experience and yet, can't find any humor in it, then there might be something wrong with you." Another of his quotes which i think is hilarious is, "If you go home with someone and if they don't have any books, don't fuck them."

I like to find humor in anything, and i try to put it down in my writing. Does it need to have a punchline? I don't think so, but if the story in itself is funny that can make up for the punchline at the end.
