THE MYSTERY OF ME

BY

DONALD HARRY ROBERTS

I don’t know what happened. I simply woke up. I did not know who I was or how I ended up on a park bench with a pull-along travel case a train ticket, two hundred dollars in cash in my pocket and a note that read, “Meet me in Vancouver as soon as you can. I am sorry it has to be this way.” The note was unsigned.

I didn’t even know what city I was in until I saw a newspaper, The Halifax Journal Daily. The headline read, ‘Murder, A Body Under The Bridge.’

I don’t know why the headline bothered me, but it did, and I felt a deep urgency to get to the train station and get out of the city as fast as I could.

I had a sad feeling in me when I reached the station like I was leaving something behind I should not, but the darkness clouding my mind urged me on.

When the train west pulled up to the platform I was torn between what I was leaving behind and what or who was waiting for me at the end of the line.
