The Circus Is Coming To Town

To every town in every state

the circus comes – now ain’t that great!

Acrobats with daring shows

will decide who stays, and just who goes

plunging down to hit the floor

and quickly gets rushed through the door.

Juggling heads? Now that’s some trick!

Which necks will stretch so they can stick

back on shoulders they belong?

But sometimes the aspect gets all wrong.

Eyes that fix forever back

for forward sight they now do lack;

be careful now, the lion roars

if you stumble right in to its paws.

Listen now, the joy the chatter

for here come the ones that really matter.

Silly suits and faces too,

a crazy slap-stick point of view;

lets laugh now at cliched tricks,

the ones the chief clown always picks.

With orange hair, a big red nose,

he looks like the temper that he throws,

a mouth full of loose-cannon shots,

with button-hole forget-me-nots.

We’ll laugh and cheer and shout for more,

this political circus, fun for sure.

But what about the consequences,

of those walls, of those trade fences?

Still it will go from state to state

inspiring dissent, stirring hate.

Circus Master, Chief Clown Don

will bring the throne he sits upon,

always the tickets do sell out

for there’s no doubting he’s got clout.
