The young man was cold and emotionless as he boarded the subway. Beth always wondered what was in there.  She always wondered how she could earn a peek inside. He was the kind of beautiful one only sees once in a lifetime.  He was her perfect man and it terrified her. The subway whizzed through the dark tunnels until it came to a screeching stop.  Beth’s stop, but not the man’s. As the tall woman stepped cautiously out, she began to ponder whether or not she should turn around.  She began to ponder whether or not she should talk to the man. She began to ponder whether or not she should ask him on a date. She began to ponder whether or not he would say yes.  She began to ponder whether or not she and him were soulmates.

Soulmates.  What a funny word.  Mated for life. A one true love.  Beth jumped back onto the subway just as the mechanic doors began to shut.  Trapped with her decision. One foot with a navy blue shoe stepped forward. Then another.  As each shoe carried the girl forward, Beth realized what she was doing. Walking towards her soulmate. Warm and proud.
