The Deadline

It came and went.  The world still exists.

Did it matter?  Really?  Nobody cared so why was it so important?

We rushed knowing that it was coming, and everything had to be finished before it arrived.  We cut corners, skipped a few steps, unimportant steps or so they seemed.  Then it was closer to the time and we tried.  We really tried to finish.

But the corners we cut and the steps we skipped were necessary, so very necessary, and now we had no choice but to fail.  We watched as it approached, Tick, tick, tick.

And then it passed.
