Writing From A Picture Prompt

Writing from a picture prompt is not something I’d ever done until the last two and a half years. Now, at least fifty per cent of writing is inspired from some sort of picture.

Sites such as Pixabay, Unsplash and Pexels are full of cco images. This means that they are free to use, as well as to alter. If I write from one of their images I’ll either use it for the cover or include it in the post.

One of the great things about getting inspiration from pictures is that there is no right or wrong. A picture means what you take it to mean and interpretation is a very personal thing. It always seem to work best if you go with your initial idea, you can always edit later. And if a picture says nothing to you, leave it; find another that really lights a spark in your mind.

I am including, here, two pictures, with the links to the posts Ive written from them. I’d love to see what others wrote for the same picture. Take the Summer Flash Fiction contest being run by the site and look at the variety of stories people have written all from the same picture.

The poem I wrote for this was a two person pov.

This is the short story I wrote inspired by this picture. https://www.booksie.com/599063-sibena

Sometimes I feel guilty for writing so much that has been inspired by someone else’s picture, but then we all get inspiration from somewhere. It could be from real life, from books that we read, from films and music, from news stories. It’s all about taking an idea or experience and mixing it up with a hefty sprinkling of imagination.

If anyone would like to use either or both of these pics and lets me know of the posting, I’ll definitely give both a read and comment.
