He was bouncing on the balls of his feet as he waited for the train beside us and said it was his first day at work.  Mom smiled politely, but she didn’t say anything as the train pulled up and she lead me to seats in the car. Something was off about him and I was a child, so I stared at the man as he sat across from us.

He caught my eye and smiled and I suddenly knew what was wrong.  His teeth were all pointed and sharp like broken glass and a forked tongue flicked between them.

I screamed and everyone else on the car looked at me and then him.  His eyes looked more like goat’s eyes that I’d seen on a field trip.  When he spread his arms, his fingers seemed to grow like claws. His skin was too pale, his blue veins visible.

When he was done, the only sounds were dripping blood and my sobs.  I couldn’t stop. He looked like he did on the platform when he took my hand and said, “A firm handshake, eye contact, and a smile are important for a good first impression.”
