Stardust.

He sprinkled stardust in my eyes.

It was not his fault, for I was a willing participant. As the stars fell from his fingertips I held my eyes open to receive them. Wide open; not a flicker of a blink.

It was beautiful.

A world that before had been so grey was now alive with color. So vibrant, so intoxicating, so enticing. I wanted it to last forever. I really believed it would and I poured myself body and soul into this whole new existence.

And then they began to fall.

One star after another, bled from my eyes in some kind of cosmic teardrops. I tried to prevent their exodus, closing my eyes to keep them in place, but like tears they made their way on to my cheeks regardless.

The colors began to fade, but not to grey this time. I’m left somewhere so much darker than I was before, hunched up and weighed down by the reality I now find myself in. Was that life nothing more than a dream?

Reaching out, imploring, that is all I can do, desperately hoping that more stardust will follow, all the while knowing deep within my heart that it won’t.
