Seven Souls

It was beautiful day,
Crystal clear to the edge.
A day for great things.
The flame and smoke,
The might engines roar|;
Shaking Mother Earth, rumbling.
A pillar of fire and smoke rose,
To lead the faithful of Terra.

A flash, then a gasp of horror,
Then a sudden sickening silence of death.
|The TV chattered on endlessly,
As newsmen flocked to the kill.
There was a message to the President.
“The shuttle, Challenger, has
exploded! More to follow.”
I guess that says it all,
At least for a certain seven souls.
