3. I Love the Way You Lie

Salty were my mother’s tears, but being alive wasn’t her final fate.

On the third day of staying with her at the hospital, I went deaf.

Deaf to the mechanic whining sound of the supporter and her wheeze.

Deaf to her “I feel alright” when she was barely able to breathe.

I sat by her bed. Our hands held. Her face was still sparked with crystal dews.

I started the conversation that I knew would be our first and the last.

“What was his name?” “He had no name. And no revenge you shall seek.”

“Was this cross his?” “He was a no priest. And nor was he a demon you shall think.”

“Did he try to hurt me before I was born?” “There was nothing more important than you lived.”

“Did he hurt you?” “No…ur…yes, maybe just a little…” Her eyes shifted away.

Shifted also the digital figures on the monitor from nearly zero or sub zero.

“Do you want more morphine?” “I just had one.” Her face turned to purple.

Turned also her composed, angelic feature to a pain distorted creature.

“Do you want to wait till dawn for Dr.?” “No. Please do me a favour while you can.”

I stood up and went to her life supporter. Off the switches I turned! Out the tubes I pulled!

Click one! And Click two! I wiped my face off sweats or tears of which I knew not.

“Mommy, please rest in peace.

I’ll bear your words in mind,

And continue to live,

But I really love the way you lie.”
