The Train by Shad Henriquez

As the train pulled into the station, I was afraid. Unsure of what lies ahead. With no where to live and very little money, all I could carry was a small rolly bag of necessities. I entered a car and found a seat near the window. The passengers were quiet. Sleeping, reading books, or speaking softly on their phones.

The woman of my dreams, Valerie, awaits at my final destination. Her brown hair and hazel eyes have for months claimed my soul. She was all I had left.

The only man I ever admired, my father, was gone forever. Mother never approved of my decisions. She thinks I’m making a mistake.

Leaving Manhattan for Queens will be an adjustment. One might interpret me as a delusional romantic. Or a cowardly young man running away from his problems. Either way, one thing is certain: Valerie is all that matters to me now. I’m anxious to hold her and express how I feel. Whatever else happens from here, I’m ready to face it head on. Take a chance. Live your live. All aboard the hopeful express.
