Looking down

trash

has collected

 by the edge

of the curb

caught in

 the muck

and leftover

 rainwater

a reflection

like that of

a calm mirrored

puddle

 underneath it

 the pebbles

and asphalt

sting

voices grow louder

when a plastic bag

overtaken

by the wind

floats by

and my gut aches

as my heart sinks into it

my face is numb

and my hands

tingle

as my reflection is

crushed beneath

rubber soles
