REALITY

by Michael Dale Sipes, Jr.

Someone asked me what reality was? Well, outside of my reality I cannot really explain. Every single thought I have is derived from memory. Every emotion is derived from memory and there is no such thing as an original thought. I cannot prove I exist and I cannot prove you exist outside of my own consciousness, furthermore when my consciousness ceases, you cease to exist too. So in a sense outside of my reality, nothing truly exists at all. Death itself is a complete absence of all reality, you have no past, no present and certainly no future, it's as if you never even existed at all. So for all intents and purposes the Cosmos may be 13.8 billion years old and I accept that as mostly fact, reason being with more information and better technology that number may grow. However, the Cosmos and space time are not relative to my consciousness but rather we are reciprocal to each other's reality. So I can both create my own reality and the beginning of the entire Cosmos without changing the fact that it's reality is just as valid albeit very much different than mine. It's reality is not tethered to my own. Which would be very much like another human beings reality, if in fact I did not create that human being in my own mind to begin with. So that again begs to question, is anything real outside of my reality at all?

A paradox arises that I do not have the ability to figure out. Any attempt would be nothing more than theory and even if accepted as fact, it would still not be a truth. Facts are conformity to the social and culturally dogma of the day where truth is conformity to God and that is not within our grasp of understanding. Basically, it's not something to worry about because that is for philosophers and theologians to argue until the end of my consciousness when everything will cease to be. Now some would say that you see other's die and the Cosmos didn't wink out, well of course not because they died in my reality, they are a part of consciousness, a fabrication of the mind. It's the absence of mind that brings about nothing, not even a void because a void demands to be filled. It would be absolute nonexistence, the absence of existence, the absence of nothingness and the absence of absence. Some cannot fathom that absolute nonexistence could be a reality, well you're right it's not a reality, we are incapable of thinking about it or experiencing it, it has no words, but some call it God. Buddha argued that there is no apparent rational necessity for the existence of a creator god because everything ultimately is created by mind, I agree. So then comes faith and the rest and that is where I stop.
