Methane gas produced by cows, sheep and pigs, that which comes from their manure, is adding to global emissions and is a source of man made climate change. This is due to the growing world wide livestock industry.

While climate scientists debate the long term effects of methane gas as opposed to carbon emissions, (from autos, ect.) methane from agriculture animals which are kept in high density areas, ( such as large cow and pig farms) still has a wide ranging effect upon global warming.

The appitite for meat is growing as human population expands and developes, thus becoming more able to afford animal based food product. The consumption of meat is on track to rise by 75% by 2050.

Another aspect of global climate change which is directly connected to meat consumption is deforestation, that which is currantly occuring within rainforests in countries such as Brazil. Being the largest participant, Brazil has cut down swatches of rainforest to create more land for cattle ranching.

A growing demand for beef is resulting in increased production, meaning grass growing spaces are needed to support cattle. The end result being a loss of vital rainforest. Brazil is the largest exporter of beef which is causing 80% of all deforestation in the Amazon.

The rainforest connect to global climate has been well established, and while efforts are made to stop human deforestation, it continues at this time.

July 2019 was the hottest on record globally, with polar ice melt rapidly flowing into the ocean. Deforestation and the methane produced by animal agriculture contributed to this result.
