Solentville Tales Chapter 24 - Lynn's funeral is overshadowed by Mylène's sad demise

The early morning sunshine enveloped the bleak cold landscape surrounding the area of St.Cuthbert's Church.

It was now just a few hours since the horrific events which had occurred involving the torture, imprisonment and severe beating which Tom had to endure along with Mylene's accident and she was now fighting for her life.

Tom had been lead away by a police officer for questioning, this officer had been first on the scene.

Meanwhile Mylène was undergoing what was hoped would be a life saving operation to stop the bleeding from haemorrhaging in to her brain which would end up killing her.

Jan was about to start her day as she pulled back the curtains in her bedroom, suddenly she was startled by the sound of a police siren and noticed that a car had just pulled up on the driveway.

Two police officers were now making their way to the front door, this was unfortunate timing and an unwelcome interruption as she had enough on her plate given that it was the day of Lynn's funeral.

-

Inspector Singleton- Good morning madame I'm very sorry to disturb you at this early hour but we are detaining your husband right now.He is helping us with our enquiries with regard to a serious incident which occurred earlier this morning at St.Cuthbert's church.

Jan-Good heavens !!!!!! what's he been up to now?,this is all I need.

Inspector Singleton- He's been charged with the attempted murder of a lady called Ms Mylène Meyers. As we speak she is currently undergoing life saving surgery.

We hope that she will make a full recovery as we need her version of events and her evidence could be crucial if your husband is to stand trial.

Jan- Oh my lord this just gets better and better,I can't believe it,why has it come to this and what was he doing with her in the first place and why would he want to kill her?,it just doesn't add up.

Inspector Singleton- Yes I can appreciate what you are saying Madame,it does seem his actions were a bit out of character.

There is another person whom we are anxious to speak to regarding this serious incident, his identity and whereabouts remain a mystery, however we know that there were three people involved in this love triangle.

It's not my job to speculate but I have a hunch that we maybe looking at a crime of passion here which are the consequence of a fall out between a lover and her spouse.

Jan- You mean to say he was involved with this Mylène and having an affair with her?.

Inspector Singleton-Yes I'm afraid that it what it looks like from where I am standing.i'm really sorry to spoil your day with this latest development,my sincerest condolences with regard to your late daughter as I know it's Lynn's funeral today.

I'll be in touch with you if I should hear of have any further news and developments with our investigation, good day to you Madame.

Jan- Yes good day to you too.

-
Jan just collapsed on to the floor near the front door, she was in a state of shock. She had been aware that Tom had been flirting with Mylène but what would his motivation be for killing her?.

Meanwhile Ken was having a shave in the bathroom and oblivious to Jan's condition. He had however been earwigging the conversation between the police officer and Jan and couldn't stop himself from smirking at Tom's misfortune.

He was thrilled that Tom was in a fix and had been implicated with attempted murder, his plan was now coming to fruition. He would win Jan's heart and they would live happily ever after or so he thought. He started to sing to himself whilst continuing to shave In front of the mirror.

-
Ken- I say Jan what time does the funeral start?,have we got time for a quick one?.I don't want to crease my new jacket in the process but I'm up for spot of hanky panky if you are.

Jan !!!!! are you alright?,where are you for goodness sake?,oh my lord !!!!!,what's happened to you, I'll just call the emergency services.

Hello I need an ambulance please right away,a lady has collapsed and she looks like she's gone in to cardiac arrest and needs urgent assistance. The address is 13 Cherry Tree Drive please hurry.

Call Handler- Ok sir I need you to remain calm,do not attempt to move her,she must remain in the same position as you found her although it might be advisable to rest her head on a couple of soft cushions.

Ken- Ok Madame I understand, hang on a minute there's somebody at the door, how long will it be before the paramedics get here?.

Call Handler- They should be with you within the next 10 minutes, just try to remain calm.

Ken- Hello Jack what do you want and what are you doing here?

Jack- I might ask you the same question, what's happened and what are you doing at Jan and Tom's house Ken?.

Ken- It's a long story Jack and I won't bore you with the details,I was just helping Jan out with the funeral arrangements since Tom is  tied up with the old bill having got himself in to a spot of bother.

Jack- Oh I see and what's happened to Jan?,has she collapsed or something and if so have you given her any first aid treatment?.

Ken- Jack it's all been taken care of,I've called for an ambulance and they should be here soon.

Jack- This is most unfortunate to have happened on a day when poor Tom and Jan are burying their daughter.Anyway I won't keep you,I was hoping to speak to Tom but that will keep for now.Let me know if there is any news on Jan.

Ken- Yes of course I will bye for now.Where's that bloody ambulance?.It's ok Jan just you hang in there love everything will be just fine.

-
Eventually the ambulance arrived and Jan was transported to Shirley General hospital. She had suffered a massive stroke and had been taken to the intensive care unit where she was being cared for.

There was speculation that she might be paralysed down one side as this was a common affliction resulting from a person having a stroke.

Meanwhile Mylène had slipped in to a coma and her fragile life was hanging by a thread, her husband had resurfaced and was keeping a vigil by her bedside.

The police wanted to question him about the earlier events of the say after a witness had come forward and had reported to the police that a man fitting his description had been seen at the scene of the crime.

There was so much going on as family and friends gathered to visit Jan but she was still in surgery.

Tom had been released without charge and was now attempting to organise the funeral arrangements but it would depend on the other members of his family.

Leo wanted the funeral to go ahead as scheduled although he was saddened by his mum's condition.

Lynn's body couldn't remain indefinitely at the local morgue and a decision would have to be taken when the burial service should take place.

It was eventually decided by the family members that funeral would go ahead at the pre-arranged time of 2pm that afternoon.

A fax was sent to the local vicar to confirm these details,it would be a private affair with no friends or members of the public invited to attend.

It was now just after midday when Mylène's husband Mike was approached by the chief surgeon and hospital's manager of the trust. They wanted Mike's permission to switch off the life support machine which was keeping his wife alive.

He became very emotional as his eyes filled up with tears which streamed down his cheeks as he nodded his head in acknowledgement and agreed to their request.

Mylène was declared clinically dead after passing away peacefully at 12.15pm.The Solentville community would be experiencing it's fair share of sadness resulting in several funerals taking place within the next few days.

A few moments later Mike was lead away by the police officer and escorted off the hospital grounds.

Tom had indicated to the police that Mylène had just met with an unfortunate accident but he did also claim that Mike had held him captive for a number of hours and wanted to press ahead with an assault charge against him.

Lynn's funeral was about to begin at the local parish church,it was a sombre affair and there was only one hymn and one song sung at the service.

The service began with "All things bright and beautiful" followed by "Always there" which was a song recorded by the opera singer Marti Webb.Lynn was buried in a family plot next to her grandmother Agnetha.

Tom and Leo quickly turned their thoughts towards Jan soon after. They were anxious for things to be concluded quickly as the thought of losing her on the same day was an unbearable prospect.

It was a rather grey and dismal overcast afternoon as rain threatened a severe downpour given the menacing looking dark clouds which loomed on the horizon.

Tom and Leo were just about to step in to the awaiting black coloured funeral car when Tom's mobile phone started to ring.

He had turned it off as a mark of respect during the funeral and was now alerted by a voice mail as he had not managed to take the call in time.

He quickly pressed down hard on the number 1 button on the keypad,It was the news he had been dreading.

Just 10 minutes after his daughter had been buried a call came through from Kate that Jan's last rights were being read by a priest, she was not expected to make it through the night.
