My mind has lots of free time, time spent recalling both good and bad. I was recalling our neighbor’s dog, who used to be left outside on their porch, and bark non-stop all damn day. They never took it for a walk, never paid any attention to it at all, day after day, week after week, all summer long. Thankfully, they kept him inside during the winter. Thinking about him reminded me of a poor dog when I much younger, a dog my friend had, a gigantic white malamute that the kept chained up behind their house, all day and night. I would go out there and pet him, but you should have seen the look on his face when I had to leave. Still almost makes me cry. The poor thing was starved for attention. He developed hip problems due to lack of exercise, I’m sure. I should have said something, but felt it wasn’t my place. I felt responsible for his happiness, but of course he wasn’t my dog.

The same with our neighbor’s dog. A friend of theirs offered to take him. He lived on a farm, with lot’s of room for the dog to run and play, but the wife said she loved him too much to give him away. Selfish to not think of the dog’s happiness. I feel bad, because I used to get upset with him ‘cause he never quit barking, but then I thought it wasn’t his fault, it was our neighbors. Just think if she’d allowed the dog to go live on a farm. The greed and self-centered attitude of some people is upsetting and depressing.
