change.

I can smell it on the air
Like that stale scent of snow
Or the rusty perfume rain
I feel it coming, but I can't say from where
But I feel it deep and feel it grow
And I question sanity as it eats at my brain

It lives in my chest
Slithering and growing off my fears
Waiting to claw free, brilliantly burst
I know its name, it won't let me rest
It nags at my eyes, my throat, my ears
It may be good or bad, whichever is first

It swims through my veins, searing
I feel it pulsing in my arms, aching
I'm just holding myself up, terrified.
I know Change, and it is nearing
Lead weight keeping me in place, I'm shaking
It rears its brand new old head, sneering

I don't know what's coming
But I know its name
It'll get me, sure to be strange
There's no use in running
So brace for it, nothing can stay the same
You can't stop change.
