The Lighthouse Hotel chapter 6 - Tom laments Avril's sudden departure as opening day arrives

The conversation between the old friends went long in to the night and ended up with the guests feeling rather tipsy and rather reluctant to go to bed even though it was well past midnight.

Tom had decided to inspect the master bedroom which was reserved for the affluent type of clientele where money was no object.

It would make a marvellous room for a honeymoon couple he thought to himself as as he was admiring the beautiful decor and the four poster bed which would add appeal to this room.

He suddenly had an idea but what would Avril think of his proposal as he smiled to himself before closing the door to this beautiful imitation Georgian designed room.

He was just about to make his proposal when he discovered to his immense disappointment that Avril was out for the count and snoring her pretty head off,the sound reminded him of a brood of young pigs.

His master plan appeared to be up in smoke as he quickly made his way down the elegant iron spiral staircase with a glass of "Jameson's" Irish whisky in his hand.

He so desperately wanted to try out the master bedroom but not alone,it would have been a fitting place for him to share a nights passion with his old flame or so he thought.

Unluckily Tom had been thwarted be had missed an opportunity which had presented itself on a plate to satisfy his lusty desires.

The following morning both Avril and Tom had got up early and had already taken a short walk along the promenade.

Meanwhile Leo was still fast asleep and Tom had only just taken an early morning shower. It was only after Tom stepped in to the shower that he heard a familiar voice call out to him as he turned around quite startled whilst shivering in the nude.

Avril- I say Tom are you up dear?,there's something I need to discuss with you.

Tom- Oh right I'll be with you in a few minutes as I'm just having my morning shower, you don't want to see me in the pink this early in the morning do you?.

Avril- Oh do stop fussing about your modesty dear,I've seen it all before, here take this towel if it bothers you so much.

Tom-Well what is it love, what do you wish to discuss with me?.

Avril- I haven't got long Tom as me and Dad will be leaving shortly.

Tom- What do you mean you're leaving shortly?,I need you here for the opening ceremony and to organise the staff rota not to mention your role of meeting and greeting the public.

Avril- Yes I'm sorry to let you down but I'm needed in Solentville today, there's a board meeting taking place at Solent Leisure which is the new company which was set up recently.

What with it being Cowes week in a fortnight and my responsibilities in sorting out the sponsorship issues with the fast net races I'm afraid my duties lie elsewhere.

Tom- I see well I can sympathise with you now,but what has a board meeting got to do with all of that?.

Avril- Sir Charles Harvey and Ken Charlery are trying to pull the rug Sent from my iPad

They are both significant stake holders in the company and have made no secret that they want me ousted from my position as Chief executive.

Tom- Oh that's really nice of them and to think I actually invited them to the opening day ceremony.

Well two can play at that game,if or when they should turn up I'll arrange for my security staff to escort them off the premises ha ha.

Avril- Anyway love I've got to dash as dad's waiting for me in the car, perhaps we could meet up again in the future for that coffee I promised you.

Tom- Ok love don't be a stranger I'm only a phone call away and besides I might pop in to Solentville next week if I'm not too busy here and Leo isn't too busy with his new antiques business.

Avril's sudden and unexpected departure now left Tom in a sticky situation and in a predicament.

He was disappointed that Avril and Jack had gone back to Solentville and a bit mystified why Jack had left without even having the courtesy to say goodbye.

He needed to take decisive action and not feel sorry for himself and had to consider a few of the people who could perform the role he had intended for Avril.

Tom decided that the role of meeting and greeting needed someone with a little upmarket  breeding and who had class in abundance .

Eventually he made that call to a lady whom he perceived to be a complete stranger but yet he was told she knew him, would she accept the role?.

Tom- Good day to you sir,may I speak with Lady Jane Harwood please?.

Butler- And who shall I say is calling?.

Tom- Oh my name is Tom Devereaux, she knows me through a mutual acquaintance.

Butler- I see sir very well, just a moment I'll try and locate her.

Lady Jane Harwood- Hello Tom it's been a long time since we last spoke to each other, perhaps you might have forgotten about me but I still hold fond memories of you.

Tom- Hello I'm sorry I feel rather embarrassed because I have no recollection of any past meetings or conversations with you,

An associate of yours called Lovejoy recommended you should I need the services of an esteemed lady like yourself.

Lady Jane Harwood- Flattery will get you everywhere with me dear ha ha.Well come on Tom why have you called me and why do you require my services?.

Tom- I'm hosting an opening day ceremony and party today for the launch of my new lighthouse hotel here in Portland and was wondering if you would consider a role of meeting and greeting the distinguished guests.

Lady Jane Harwood- Oh a girl does like to be propositioned when hubby is away on business if you know what I mean?.

Right let me see yes I'm free today and would be delighted to offer you my services what other tasks do you wish me to perform?.

Tom- Oh it's just a bit of meeting and greeting the various guests, you would need to organise a work rota,I'm sure you could manage that in your sleep.

Lady Jane Harwood- Perhaps but right now I need to get my thinking cap on,so your hotel is located in at Beachy head in Portland right?

Tom- Yes that's right, what time can you get here?.

Lady Jane Harwood- I should be with you in about 45 minutes if that's ok,I'm sure we will have much to do and time might be slightly against us dear, when does the event start Tom?.

Tom- The guests should start arriving at about 3pm this afternoon,so that gives us about 7 hours to get organised. The staff will start arriving at around noon,so that's only 4 hours away see you shortly.

Tom replaced the handset and was now wondering who was this mystery lady.He considered that it was a mere coincidence that her accent and manner were so similar to that of his late wife.

He was becoming intrigued and was eager to meet her in the flesh, the minutes seem to pass like hours as he started to pace up and down the front entrance of the hotel.

He decided to keep his mind focused on a few tasks and placed a few hanging baskets above the entrance to the hotel.

Each basket was filled with a variety of colourful flowers which he hoped would add to the ambience of the hotel and Impress his guests on their arrival.

After what seemed an eternity of waiting he quickly spotted a green Range Rover car pull up in the nearby car park.

He tried to scrutinise the face of the driver as a lady made her way towards the hotel's main entrance. She had bright red hair and was Impeccably dressed wearing a green ball gown and strapped sandals which exposed her freshly varnished pink toenails.

Her smile would have lit up a thousand ships and have men falling over themselves to serve her every need. She appeared to be a truly elegant stunning lady.

Tom was lost for words and breathless as she presented herself to him and making her introduction.

Lady Jane Harwood- You must be Tom,it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance once again, you can call me Jane.

Tom- Of course you are and I must say what a pleasure it is to meet such a stunningly beautiful lady,so how can I be of service to you?.

Lady Jane Harwood- No sir it is I who will be of service to you if you remember our little short phone call less than an hour ago,now how may I be of assistance to you?.

After quickly composing himself and trying desperately to prevent his manhood from bulging in to a trouser snake formation he escorted the delightful Lady Jane in to his new hotel.

A quick tour of the lighthouse and hotel followed without too much conversation being exchanged between the two of them.

Tom had become smitten with his new acquaintance as his heart was beating faster and faster until the tour ended up in the Georgian  bedroom with it's 4 poster bed.

There was a glint of sparkle and joy in Lady Jane's eyes as she began to inspect the bed it was met with her approval as she began to jump up and down playfully whilst smiling at Tom with her mischievous come to bed eyes much to his obvious embarrassment.

She couldn't take her eyes off him and it seem to tickle her that he appeared to have a rather pensive looking expression etched across his face.

He glanced at her with a look of confusion and mystery, where had they met before?,how did she know him in his past?.He was convinced that he had never set eyes upon her before yet she claimed to know him.n
