Dawn does not dream for those who do sleep

and sleep in their slumber—the dead man’s dream.

Night does not wait for those who do not wake—

the endless sleep of the madman’s scream.

But a sweet dreamer’s flower is a well-crafted tower,

a gentle embrace of that long-sleeping bower,

where childhood waits between every wake

and blinks at the sun before the earthquake.

Where virginity blooms at the half of the moon

and dreamers tread carefully over the graves

of the sleeping sage in his well-worn tune

put to rest at the close of the waves.
