I was inspired to write this piece as I was waiting for my camera to finish a time lapse picture of the night sky at Belle Isle State Park in Virginia. I felt like an astronomer as I looked up at the night sky and was lost in wonder with how vast it was. I hope you enjoy reading this; please let me know what you think! :)

I stand in the midst of a field of stars.

Staring up at the night sky as my camera clicks.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

It captures the sky which is hidden to the naked eye.

 

I feel like a 21st century Galileo.

I stretch my arm and try touching Jupiter.

I am guided by the North Star too far off lands.

I can see the Milky Way through my lens.

Its many stars enchant me.

I am caught up in its beauty.

I feel like a tiny piece in the heavenly puzzle.

We are part of a cog of the great clock of the night sky.

Stars make trails across the black tapestry.

Like the grooves in a record they play a different tune;

shine a different light;

 tell a different tale.

I can hear their faint voices, coming from thousands of miles away.

Telling me of their past and future.

Telling me tales from long ago;

of how they came to be.

I learn of those who came before me;

what was on their mind as they looked through a telescope.

I am lost in space as I stand and stare;

wondering what stories the stars will tell

When I become a speck in time.
