Teddy tugged at the microphone that was attached to his shirt.  Today he would again address the firestorm he created with comments he made to a friend over lunch.  Unfortunately for him, a woman with a smart phone had randomly decided to video tape her grandchildren at the table next to the two friends having their mid day meal.  ‘If only I had opted not to answer or waited for a different setting to talk about such things; or just kept my voice down’, he thought to himself as the two hosts of the show he was appearing on took their seats and clipped on their own microphones.  ‘If only the video hadn’t gone viral when she posted it on Face Book’. “Four million You Tube hits a day and hundreds of thousands of comments later, here I am’ he thought to himself.

After a moment of banter with his female co host concerning the subject being featured today, the male ‘newsman’ addressed Teddy with a very stern look on his face.  “How could you say something like that in public?” he started. ‘The many polls taken in the last week or so, indicate most men are disgusted and confused by your comments, and they blame you for the growing clamor coming from the American female population”.  Teddy squirmed a little, while trying to come up with a good answer.  Before he could do so the female correspondent smiled at him and asked, ‘your comments were controversial at best, and has caused such a reaction by women across this country; how do you feel about that?”

The two daytime ‘stars’ started bickering back and forth before Teddy managed to say a word.  He was flabbergasted.  For a week, he received hundreds of phone calls and emails, with some demanding his head, and others praising him for his insight into what females actually desire.  One hour-long, prime time news magazine had dedicated their entire show to Teddy’s insight.  He seemed to fare a bit better among women, but not all of them. Some men acted like they would like to see his head on a pike and claimed not to understand the concept behind his thoughts at that fateful lunch.  The big three news organizations managed to inter mingle the controversy with the country’s current political climate.  There were loud arguments among ‘talking heads’ from both major political parties, with one nasty, physical confrontation among pundits.  It seemed to be the only thing anyone was interested in talking about.

The two hosts of the show were arguing loudly now, and Teddy sat there pondering a world without him being the center of attention.  He recalled the innocent answer he gave his friend to the question of what a woman wants and desires from a partner sexually.  He remembered repeating his answer to several male correspondents over the last few days and was surprised at the blank looks and/or the outright rage it sometimes provoked.  The sixteen words that changed Teddy's life that day?  "If you want to know what a woman wants, sexually or otherwise, you should just ask".
