I want to scream my love from the rooftops

But without you at my side I feel like a liar.

How can I say that I’m gay

Without a boy holding my hand to prove

That I am who I say I am and not who they think I am

- a man who has had too much to drink leans across the table

And focuses his blurry eyes on mine

“Lesbian.” he says and it’s not a question.

Even though I have a new name, a boys name,

I still get shovelled into the female category by people

Every day.

It’s exhausting.

The only place I feel relaxed in the

Company of other queer people because

I know

They aren’t judging me the same.
