Throughout our lives, experiences and influences change and strengthen us. Our very existence can alter our thoughts and outlook on life. This poem is about finding and cherishing your inner strength. It is about self respect.

You Can't Keep Me Down

Take me as you find me,

Take me as I am,

You want me to be who I'm not,

Has this always been your plan?

I strive to be that person,

Lord knows I've tried and tried,

Years spent and wasted succumbing to your pride.

To you I'm like the jigsaw piece that doesn't seem to fit,

Well let me tell you now, I'm done with all that shit.

You'll see me as I really am,

For that I'm very sure.

No more bending backwards,

My new strength knows no cure.

Minds were made for thinking,

Tongues were made for speaking,

So you will now honour the respect that I'm now seeking.

You may not like the new me,

You may think I'm from Hell,

But the truth is that I've now emerged directly from my shell.

Like a catapillar sleeps and hatches into spring,

My colours and my beauty are my new thing.

So I will flaunt them, I will fly high above the ground,

Self love and inner confidence I'm pleased I've finally found.
