Just as I thought, it didn’t take long for our paths to cross once again. A creature of the night knows where to find another. Once again, the same scene unfolded before my very eyes. The fog and the moonlight worked in concord to give her a heavenly shine like one would only expect an angel to have. I believe that she could feel my excitement at our reunion as she decided to grace me with the gentle melody of her voice.

-I’ve seen you here before, haven’t I? – She whispered gently.

-Yes, we have crossed paths once, exactly 6 days ago. It was an evening much like this when you decided to grace me with you beauty for the first time. – I could not and did not want to hold back my feelings so I simply spoke from my heart.

-Please, allow me to give you this gift as a sign of gratitude. – I said while holding out the painting I had made.

-Gratitude? – She chuckled. -Gratitude for what? –

-For being the only flower growing out of this vermin infested wall we call home. –

Upon hearing my words, I could see that her cheeks, which up until now had been a perfect white just like the rest of her face, had now become a gentle red.

-Please, let me give you this gift and you will have to hear no more of me. To express my gratitude is all I seek. – I feared that she would reject me, but as luck would have it, the admiration did not go only one way.

-I thank you for the kind words, but I must say, how can you adore me so when you don’t even know my name? – She continued to blush as she was speaking and I knew that this was my chance.

-So, tell me now. It must be one that matches your beauty. – I was sure my words rung out through the alleyway, but I didn’t care, I just had to know.

-Oh please, my name is a simple one and you will get to know it in due time, but first, I must ask you. Would you mind accompanying me to my residence? I believe it is not too wise to stay out any longer. Many a mare roams these alleys when the moon arises. – Her words flowed out of her mouth so perfectly. Like a violin played by Paganini himself.

For the briefest of moments, I stood there, awestruck. I accepted her offer of course and slowly followed behind her through the dark alleys of this wretched city and that is when it happened. As the moonlight bounced off of her pearl skin, it made all the walls around us appear clean and beautiful, as if we were roaming the halls of a glass castle.

She decided that I was too slow, and, with a childlike smile, she turned to me and gave me her hand. Instinctively, I took it and we began to run through the alleyways like children playing a game. Her laugh echoed in my ears and brushed against me like a gentle breeze. I felt refreshed and imbued with a vigour like I had never felt before.

Our stroll through the night soon came to an end as we reached her house. It was a beautiful house with all that one could need, surrounded by a beautiful garden that was filled with all manner of flora. Among them were also white roses.

Once at the door, she turned to me.

-Will you join me for a cup of tea? – Her words imbued me with such a happiness that I could barely muster a reply.

-Y…Y…. Y…Yes! Of course, a cup of tea would be lovely. – Embarrassment struck me like a fist to the face, but she merely chuckled.

We went inside and she prepared the tea as I began unpacking the painting. Once the tea was done, she saw the painting and began observing it very intensely. I could see it in her eyes, she was as bewitched by the painting as I was by her. It was after all, my greatest achievement. One which would not be possible had I not experienced such emotion towards this woman whose name I didn’t even know. And once I took the cup of the she made for me and smelled it’s fragrance, I finally understood why.
