WALTER MITTY ME

By John Ross Hart

It seemed so real.I was in a band playing the electric bass guitar.I was next to the lead guitarist, who was playing accoustic. The lead vocalist also played accoustic. To his right was the keyboard player.  The drummer was behind us.We were on stage facing a crowd.

We were doing "Save Your Heart for Me," a song originally recorded by Gary Lewis and the Playboys. How we were playing it was awfully close to the recording. The lead guitarist was doing the whistling.I just played my bass.I added to the back-up vocals at the end of the song.I was so into what I was doing.

As we finished, the crowd whistled and clapped.A few girls screamed. Our lead singer said "Thank You."

I don't remember our next song. The dream was too short. But if I wasn't teaching, I have no doubt, I would be playing bass and singing back-up in a rock n' roll band.
