Always There

A plain white china bowl,

a chip near the bottom,

a crack in the glaze,

had left it discarded

and gathering dust.

She took it

and cleaned it

then filled it with earth;

collected tiny pebbles

to help with

the drainage,

planted tiny seedlings,

hoping that they

would shoot and take root.

Every day she tended it

with utmost care

and was rewarded

with the tiny little garden

that grew there.

Her haven,

her sanctuary,

her means of an escape

when the concrete

and the bustle,

the business and stress

become just too much to bear.

And that little piece of nature

nurtures her,

and when she needs the comfort,

the escape,

the reminder that there’s more to life

than stressing and striving,

that little china garden’s

always there.

That was lovely, Hully.
Annabel's tomato plants have finally come up on the windowsill, heralding new life, Spring is just around the corner, or so they say.

Christy Writes

Such a sweet sentiment in this poem. Creating, whether it's new life through gardening or creating art, is sometimes our only escape from outside stress.
