Jack brought Carolyn up on deck. She knelt down beside her grandfather. Please don't leave me, she said. He hugged her and said, I love you too my dear and the last thing in this world that I would ever want is to leave you. But it seems fate has other plans for me, and you. She could see that he was in great pain, he could hardly speak at all now. He told her that she would stay here on the island with Mr. Hawthorn and he would take care of her. She began to cry, so did Jack.  Her grandfather gave her a kiss on the forehead and told her it was time to go below and gather her belongings. As she walked away the captain began to weep. I love her so very much he said, Jack, held on to his hand. Thank you, Mr. Hawthorn, for doing this, please take good care of her. I will Mr. Mccarthy, I promise you, I will. Jack left the captain's side for a moment to see that Carolyn was alright. When he returned, the captain was dead. Jack looked at him, this is the second person I have seen die in less than four months, I don't want to see it again. He covered the captain's body with part of the sail that was lying on the deck. Jack knew he would have to find some way to get move the mast off of the captain's body. He would have to be buried.
