Through blurry eyes

I trace the details of your face with my fingers

In attempts to remember

A hazy outline in place

Of where my father was supposed to be

I imagined a joyful reunion

Where only love and forgiveness exist

Tears of pure happiness

An empty void overflowing

Desperately, I dial your number

Heaving with breaths that taste of cheap wine

Maybe, somehow you will pick up?

And I can hear your voice one last time

A cigarette rattling against my finger

Every ring makes me feel sick

I know what comes next

You died last night alone on your couch

I imagine the empty liquor bottle

And your phone buzzing nearby

My name lighting up your screen
